3 Qualities that Help Journeymen Electricians Become Foremen

As we continue to grow, we’re always on the lookout for more leaders. We’re fortunate to have skilled workers filling our journeyman electrician jobs, and we're always on the lookout for electricians that have what it takes to become an electrical foreman. When we consider whether someone would make a good foreman, we look at how they complete the physical work, and we also look at how they function within their team. Here are three qualities that help a journeyman stand out and be considered for a foreman position.

1. Communication and Social Skills

3 Qualities that Help Journeymen Electricians Become ForemenForemen need to be able to have a good working relationship with their crew, and it’s also really important for them to build relationships with the other contractors on a job site - as well as the customer. Maintaining a good working relationship with the other crews and customer helps everything go much smoother out on the job site.

2. Determination

Even though it’s important to get along with the other crews, a foreman has to make sure they still get their work done. Sometimes, that means being tough or holding a firm line when you need to get something done.

3. Respect for Deadlines

Holding up the timelines of a project is no easy feat. A good foreman knows how to work with a sense of urgency and pass that urgency onto their crew. The journeymen who work hard on a job do get noticed, and if they have a knack for keeping the crew on pace, they’re a good candidate for foreman.

Our Project Managers know that their job is a lot smoother when they have a good foreman onsite – not just someone who can work hard, but someone who can keep a team focused. A Project Manager isn’t on-site at all times like a foreman is, so it’s important for them to know that their foreman is keeping the project moving in the right direction.
